An allied health leader and speech pathologist with a career spanning more than four decades were among those recognised at the 2026 WA Excellence in Allied Health Awards last night.
The awards celebrate the people and teams shaping the future of allied health through outstanding care, education, service improvement, and leadership across Western Australia.
The Lifetime Achievement Honour was awarded to Susan Alexander from Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group, recognising a career dedicated to building capability, strengthening services, and supporting generations of allied health professionals.
As WA’s inaugural Allied Health Education Director, Susan established the first dedicated Allied Health Education Service in WA and has led workforce development initiatives that continue to influence allied health practice across the State.
The Allied Health Team of the Year award was presented to the Accessible Collaborative Community Eyecare Service (ACCES) Team. Based at Royal Perth Hospital, the ACCES Team is delivering high-quality glaucoma care across WA.
This year’s awards coincide with Allied Health Professions Day, which recognises the contribution of professionals working across more than 30 disciplines and specialties that support the health and wellbeing of Western Australians.

As stated by Health Minister Meredith Hammat:
“Behind most healthcare journeys is an allied health professional helping Western Australians regain independence, build confidence, and achieve the best possible quality of life.
“From regional hospitals and research settings to community services and specialist care, allied health professionals make an extraordinary contribution to the health system and the communities they serve.
“This year’s award recipients represent the very best of the profession, demonstrating a commitment to innovation, collaboration, and better outcomes for patients.”
