Celebrating Neighbourhood Houses

Roger Jaensch,Minister for Human Services

Neighbourhood House Week is now underway for 2020, which is an ideal time to recognise the important role Neighbourhood Houses play in supporting Tasmanians.

Neighbourhood Houses are the heart of many communities across the state as they promote social inclusion, provide community-led programs, and help Tasmanians access important services.

This is more important than ever as we deal with the ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and this year’s theme of “#togetherwearetheanswer” reflects the ongoing commitment of our Neighbourhood Houses to support their community through these difficult times.

While this year’s celebrations will be done differently due to COVID-19 regulations, I join the Tasmanian community in sincerely thanking all the staff and volunteers who dedicate their time to running Neighbourhood Houses and helping those in need.

The Government is a strong supporter of Tasmania’s 35 Neighbourhood Houses, which is why we recently announced an additional $700,000 in funding as part of our social and economic support package to better help Tasmanians in response to COVID-19.
