CFMEU welcomes ACT Gov’s compulsory acquisition, construction plans

CFMEU ACT

The CFMEU ACT has congratulated the ACT Government for its acquisition of the Calvary Bruce hospital and its $1 billion commitment to a new hospital on the site. “Canberra’s rapid growth demands foreword looking infrastructure investment,” said CFMEU ACT Secretary Zach Smith. “I know there will be those who whine about the compulsory acquisition princess, but a good Territory government needs to think about the community first and stakeholder sensibilities second. “Canberra is the fastest growing capital city in the country and we need our infrastructure — particularly our health infrastructure — to keep pace. We know the northside is projected to nearly double in population over just the next 40 years. “The existing Calvary hospital has served the Canberra community well but it had become clear the buildings had reached the end of their useful life. “Bring on the construction crews so we can move as swiftly as possible toward a brand new state-of-the-art public hospital by 2030.”
