Change of venue for DREAM lantern event

Dubbo Regional Council advises of a change of venue for the DREAM Festival’s signature DREAM Lantern event on Saturday 22 October from 4pm to 10pm.

Due to predicted rain in lead up to the weekend, the event featuring music, markets, food vendors and a lantern display will be moved from Victoria Park to a section of Darling Street from Talbragar Street to Wingewarra Street. The following road closure will be in place on Saturday:

  • Darling Street – Talbragar Street to Wingewarra Street from 7.00am to 11.00pm
  • Church Street – Darling Street to Carrington Avenue from 7.00am to 11.00pm

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Mathew Dickerson said “We had to make the decision to relocate the event to sturdier ground to create the best experience possible for attendees and reduce damage to Victoria Park. The move will also decrease the likelihood of needing to cancel the event altogether at the last minute if food vans and entertainment were unable to access the park due to wet ground.”

“Parts of Victoria Park will still be utilised for the market stalls and as a place for people to relax, sit down with a bite to eat, listen to the music and enjoy the festival atmosphere,” Councillor Dickerson said.

The DREAM Lantern Parade will proceed as planned and travel from Macquarie Regional Library along Talbragar Street, enter Victoria Park on Memorial Drive and finish at the Cenotaph, with a traffic management plan in place for the parade proceedings.

DREAM Lantern is proudly supported by Macquarie Credit Union. General Manager Matthew Bow is excited to be part of the event once again. “We look forward to Saturday’s DREAM Lantern event and the parade. It is always a magical time to see the community and visitors come together to light up the night,” he said.
