Charges against Blair Athol man withdrawn, second man arrested, South Australia

A 32-year-old northern suburbs man has now been arrested following investigations into a sexual assault at Blair Athol.

SAPOL investigators yesterday arrested a 29-year-old man who was believed on reasonable grounds to be the suspect in the sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl at Blair Athol on Wednesday 3 April.

It has now been established earlier today that this man is not the offender in this matter after forensic evidence cleared him of direct involvement in the attack. He will not appear in court today and has been unconditionally released with all charges being withdrawn.

Subsequently, police acted immediately and have now arrested a 32-year-old northern suburbs man.

Forensic Science SA are undertaking urgent forensic examinations in this matter. It is expected that the results will not be known until tomorrow.

The second man has been remanded in custody and a date is yet to be determined for his court appearance.

Police will continue to take action, where appropriate evidentiary thresholds are met, to ensure the protection of the public in cases such as this. The safety of the public is a primary concern.

We again urge any person who may have any information about this incident to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au
