Charges following Brighton East burglary and Monash Freeway arrests

Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged five people following an alleged aggravated burglary in Brighton East and pursuit that ended on the Monash Freeway yesterday.

It is alleged a Nissan Patrol and an Audi SQ5 were stolen from a property on Clonaig Street about 5.30am.

The vehicles were allegedly involved in another home invasion in Hampton Park about 7.45am before fleeing.

No one was injured during the home invasions.

Officers spotted the Nissan Patrol being driven erratically in Doveton about 8am, before engaging in a pursuit.

With the assistance of the Air Wing, the vehicle was followed through multiple eastern and south-eastern suburbs on the Eastlink and Monash Freeway.

The vehicle was intercepted by specialist police on the Monash Freeway about midday.

Three 16-year-old boys, a 17-year-old boy, and a 19-year-old and 20-year-old man were arrested at the scene.

A 16-year-old from the Casey area has been charged with intentional aggravated exposure of emergency worker to risk by driving, reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, theft of motor vehicle and unlicenced driving.

A 16-year-old from the Cardinia area has been charged with theft of motor vehicle and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

A 16-year-old from the Whitehorse area has been charged with theft of motor vehicle.

The 17-year-old from the Casey area has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated burglary and theft of motor vehicle (x2).

They have each been remanded to appear before a children’s court later today.

The 19-year-old Cranbourne East man was charged with theft of motor vehicle.

He was remanded to appear before Dandenong Magistrates’ Court later today.

The 20-year-old Wheelers Hill man remains in hospital under police guard.

The Audi SQ5 was recovered in Endeavour Hills.
