Charges laid after drugs seized following crash – Menangle

A disqualified driver will face court today charged after drugs were seized following a crash in Sydney’s south-west.

About 1.30am on Tuesday (26 September 2023), emergency services were called to the Hume Highway at Menangle, following reports a truck had rolled and one of its spare tyres had crashed into a Volkswagen Golf sedan.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 45-year-old woman, was not injured.

The truck driver, a 42-year-old man, was taken to Liverpool Hospital under police guard for assessment.

Officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

During a search of the truck, investigators located 2.2kg of heroin, 1,4-Butanediol, and a mobile phone. These were seized to undergo forensic examination.

The 42-year-old man was discharged from hospital yesterday (Wednesday 27 September 2023) and was taken Campbelltown Police Station.

He was charged with possess prohibited drug, supply large commercial quantity prohibited drug, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and supply indictable quantity prohibited drug.

The Canberra man was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today (Thursday 28 September 2023).

Investigations are continuing.
