Charges – Traffic and drug offences – Rural area

Drug and Organised Crime detectives have charged a 33-year-old male and 34-year-old female following a pursuit earlier this week.

Detectives attempted to apprehend a vehicle in Humpty Doo around 10:20am on 26 February 2019. The vehicle failed to stop and was briefly pursued along Kennedy Road. The pursuit was called off due to safety concerns arising from the vehicle’s excessive speed.

Detectives located the registered owner of the vehicle on 27 February. The 34-year-old female failed to provide police with the identity of the driver on the date of the pursuit. She was subsequently issued with a notice to appear before Darwin Local Court. Police examined and defected the vehicle.

The female and a 33-year-old male were apprehended in another in vehicle when leaving a property in Virginia around 8:20am yesterday. Police conducted a search of the vehicle which resulted in the seizure of a less than traffickable quantity of methamphetamine, two imitation firearms and other indications of dangerous drug supply.

Police then conducted a search warrant at the Virginia property which located further indications of drug supply.

The male was arrested and conveyed to Darwin Watch House. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in Darwin Local Court later this afternoon.

He was charged with:

• Fail To Obey Direction Of Police Officer

• Overtake Incorrectly – Unsafe To Do So

• Exceed Speed Limit, 31-45km/h Over The Limit

• Driving At Dangerous Speed – Exceed Speed Limit by Over 45km/h

The female was also arrested and conveyed to Darwin Watch House where she was subjected to drug testing. She returned a positive reading for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

She was charged with:

• Possess A Prohibited Weapon

• Possess A Schedule 1 Dangerous Drug – Less Than Traffickable

• Drive With Prohibited Drug In Blood

She is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on 15 March 2019.
