Charges upgraded after pedestrian dies in hospital in Sydney CBD, NSW

Investigators have upgraded the charges laid against a driver after a pedestrian died in hospital following a crash in Sydney’s CBD last month.

Just before 5pm on Monday 13 July 2020, emergency services were called to Macquarie Street, near St James Road, after reports a pedestrian had been struck by a Ford Ranger utility.

Police will allege the utility reversed and hit the pedestrian, a 79-year-old man.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he died on Tuesday 14 July 2020.

The driver, a 48-year-old man, who was arrested and charged shortly after the alleged incident, has now had his charges upgraded to dangerous driving (occasioning death) – drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving (occasioning death).

The Baulkham Hills man is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court today (Wednesday 26 August 2020).
