Australia’s best sprintcar drivers will go head-to-head at Northline Speedway this month at the Ostojic Chariots of Thunder Sprintcar Series.

The event will deliver two thrilling weekends of motorsport action on 18-19 and 25-26 August 2023, with more than 100 vehicles taking part across the divisions, including 61 from interstate, and the teams keen to claim a share of the $170,000 prize money. This year will also see 48 Wingless Sprints take to the track, putting the growing local division on the national stage.

A fan appreciation night will take place at The Precinct Tavern at Darwin Waterfront on Thursday, 24 August between 4-8pm, giving racing fans the opportunity to meet drivers, purchase merchandise and soak up the atmosphere.

The final night of racing will see the return of the much-loved Pole Shuffle Challenge, with the driver who snags pole position for the last race offered the option to relinquish the spot and start from the rear of the field. If they successfully weave through the other competitors to finish first, they will win an additional $30,000, making it a $40,000 win!

Quotes from Northern Territory Major Events Company CEO Suzana Bishop:

“Chariots of Thunder draws motorsport fans from across the country to compete and spectate in what is a tightly contested event. While in town for the two weekends of racing, they not only experience heart-racing motorsport action, but also get to experience our Top End lifestyle. This includes enjoying our restaurants, accommodation and tourism offerings, which is great news for our economy.

“The event will also be live-streamed for free, placing Darwin in front of viewers across the nation and even the world. This is great exposure.”

Quotes from Northline Speedway President Caleb Gotts:

“The Ostojic Chariots of Thunder is the biggest weekend of motorsport action for sprintcar drivers in the Northern Territory, and it just keeps getting bigger each year.

“This year we’re seeing the likes of Australian Sprintcar Champion, Jock Goodyer make their way to the Territory to compete for a share in $170,000. It’s a great opportunity for our local drivers to gain exposure to national level competitive racing right here in Darwin.”
