Child death investigation at Mackay

Detectives from the Mackay Child Protection and Investigation Unit investigating the death of a baby boy earlier this month are treating the death as suspicious.

Queensland Ambulance Service was called to an East Mackay residence at 2pm on Tuesday, June 2, where a six-month-old boy was found unresponsive.

He was transported to Mackay Base Hospital before being transferred to Townsville Hospital where he passed away on June 4.

An Investigation Centre has been established at Mackay Police Station with Operation Sierra Bellbird involving local detectives, intelligence officers, scientific and scenes of crime officers, and specialist police from State Crime Command’s Child Trauma Unit.

Anyone with any information which could assist with this investigation is asked to contact police.
