Homicide Squad detectives are investigating after a woman and 3-month-old child were hit by a train at Upwey this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Kumbada Avenue about 5.10pm after reports the pair had been struck.
The child was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.
The woman was taken to hospital under police guard with life threatening injuries.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
