Child dies in Dandenong house fire

Police and Arson Squad detectives are at the scene of a fatal house fire which occurred in Dandenong last night.

Emergency services were called to the Leonard Street home following reports of the fire just before 10pm.

Three adults and two children managed to get out of the house but sadly, despite the efforts of a neighbour, a small child could not be saved.

The neighbour, a man in his 30s, was conveyed to hospital with serious burns.

A crime scene has been established and a crime-scene guard will remain at the address overnight.

A forensic chemist and fire investigators will examine the scene in the morning to determine the exact cause of the fire.
