Childhood immunisation module now available

Whilst many of the procedures remain the same, vaccinating children and adolescents requires additional skills such as considering consent in a minor, distraction, and communication with parents.

To help pharmacists increase their confidence in this area, Guild Learning and Development has opened up access to the Childhood Immunisation Module for all pharmacists across the nation. Guild members can access the module at no charge, while non-members can access it for $75.

This module is a component of the Pharmacy Guild Immunisation Course and has been included in the immunisation training courses for several states and territories. Completion of a unit of education on childhood vaccination may be a requirement in some jurisdictions.

Information contained within the module includes:

  • Information on the National Immunisation Program
  • Consent considerations in adolescents
  • Vaccination procedure for children
  • Communication with parents, including those who are unsure about vaccination
  • Documentation of vaccination

Pharmacists are reminded to stay up-to-date on their state and territory legislation and ensure they are practicing according to their local laws.
