Children’s Week event at Logan Reserve

Childrens Week

Hobsons Bay’s youngest residents are invited to head down to Logan Reserve for a morning of storytelling, live performance, art and craft, roving performers, live music and more at our 13th annual Children’s Week Event on Wednesday 23 October.

Joint portfolio holder for the social wellbeing and community services portfolio Councillor Tony Briffa said that this year’s event would feature drumming workshops, clay bug making, face painters, firetrucks and plenty of fun activities hosted by local community groups and organisations.

“Our annual Children’s Week Event is one of the most popular events on the social calendar for our youngest residents and this year’s festivities will not disappoint,” said Cr Briffa.

“Twenty five local community groups have come together to deliver a stellar line up of free fun activities which are guaranteed to put a smile on the dial.

“This is also a great opportunity to celebrate the talents, skills and abilities of our local children with JD Dance Group and One Tree Kindergarten performing at the picnic.”

The annual Children’s Week Picnic is the culmination of National Children’s Week, a nation-wide celebration that recognises the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children.

Joint portfolio holder for the social wellbeing and community services portfolio Councillor Colleen Gates said that the theme for this year’s celebration focused on the right of all children to be healthy, safe and happy, in accordance with Article 24 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

“There is an important and impactful message behind the fun of this event,” said Cr Gates.

“National Children’s Week is a time for us to call for a greater response to the plight of many millions of children in Australia and around the world who are denied the basic necessities of a happy childhood and the education to develop their capacities.

“It is also a time for us to consider the social conditions that affect the lives and future of our children and to celebrate the right of children to enjoy their childhood.”

All children are invited to bring their friends and join the fun and free activities.

The Children’s Week Event is on Wednesday 23 October from 10am to 1pm at Logan Reserve, corner Pier and Queen Streets, Altona. For details, call Council on 9932 1000.
