Christmas Cheer Rings Throughout Yarra Valley

  • Minister for Racing

Yarra Valley Racing’s inaugural Christmas Cup meeting will receive some extra yuletide cheer, thanks to a funding package of more than $62,000.

Minister for Racing Martin Pakula today announced that the Andrews Labor Government would contribute more than $17,500 from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund to support the festive race meeting on Friday, 20 December.

The highlight of the meeting is the Yarra Valley Cup, which has been moved from an autumn time slot.

Racegoers will be treated to live music, roving Christmas clown entertainers, subsidised dining packages and a range of corporate and cocktail marquees offering the perfect option for an office Christmas party.

There will be a free shuttle bus from Lilydale train station to the course.

Yarra Valley Racing is also providing more than $43,000 towards the event, while Country Racing Victoria has chipped in more than $2000.

Since December 2014, the Labor Government has provided more than $820,000 to support seven harness racing events, nine thoroughbred racing events and 13 infrastructure projects at Yarra Valley Racing.

The racing industry in regional Victoria generates $1.15 billion for the economy and helps sustain more than 9,700 full-time-equivalent jobs.
