Christmas in Geelong opening night performers announced

Prepare for an entertaining evening as the renowned singing sensation, Stellar Perry (Rocky Horror Picture Show), takes center stage for our Christmas in Geelong 2023 program, a free community Opening Night celebration event on Saturday 11 November 2023.

We’ve got a lineup that’s bound to jingle your bells! Kim Cooper, Denis Walter, Zoe Walter and Thomas Currie (Piano Bar Geelong), will serenade you with timeless Christmas classics.

Geelong Schools Big Band, featuring students from across the region, will kick-off the night.

The festivities commence at 5:30 pm with roving entertainment at Steampacket Quay. The live stage show starts at 7:00pm.

A variety of food trucks will be on site, or alternatively you can visit your favourite local restaurant along Eastern Beach Road.

At 9:00pm, one lucky young Geelong child will have the opportunity to join Santa in ‘flicking the switch’, igniting our iconic Floating Christmas Tree and a pyrotechnic display that will leave everyone in awe.For the first time ever our Christmas in Geelong Opening Night show will be livestreamed. Bay FM will be doing an outdoor broadcast between 5:00pm and 7:00pm.

Floating Christmas Tree Sound and Light Show information

Following opening night, the six-minute Floating Christmas Tree Sound and Light Show will be staged each night from 8.30pm until midnight, running every 15 minutes.

Family-friendly shows will be staged on Saturdays in December commencing at 5:30pm, to give families and those not wanting to be out after dark the opportunity to enjoy the show at an earlier timeslot.

The light show on the tree will be changed three times, running from 11 November to 1 December 2023, 2 December to 25 December and 26 December 2023 to 7 January 2024.

The tree will be in operation until 7 January 2024and will also feature in the spectacular New Year’s Eve fireworks display.

More than 297,000 attended last year’s Christmas in Geelong program and there was an economic output of $15,745,874 for our region.
