Citizenship ceremonies return online

This week will see the return of citizenship ceremonies for Campbelltown residents in a new, online format as a way to reintroduce the ceremonies during the COVID-19 health situation.

The ceremonies are being held while restrictions on indoor gatherings remain in place with several individual sessions held during each ceremony.

Nineteen people, including four families, will get their Australian citizenship during the first ceremony held by the Mayor today.

“As the child of first generation Australians, I have always been proud of our strong multicultural ethos in Campbelltown and how welcoming we are as a community to new residents,” Mayor George Brticevic said.

“I look forward to welcoming people back to our citizenship ceremonies in person over the coming months but for now it will be really special to conduct one-on-one ceremonies with people and families online,” Cr Brticevic said.

The ceremonies are being held for people already on a waiting list with priority given to those who have been waiting the longest.

Online ceremonies are being held as a way to address the current waiting list of more than 700 residents in the Campbelltown LGA.
