Following a competitive tender process the City of Greater Bendigo has appointed YMCA Victoria to manage the Bendigo East Swimming Pool for the next two summer swimming seasons.
City of Greater Bendigo Healthy Communities and Environments Director, Jess Howard said the City has commenced preparing the 50metre pool and facilities and is expected to hand over the site to the YMCA by the end of this week.
“The contract includes provision for early morning openings, with the 50metre heated pool due to open for lap swimming before the summer season commences,” Ms Howard said.
“Early morning opening and the pre-season extension form part of an aquatic services transition phase and will be reviewed after the 2027-2028 season.
“This means from mid to late October, the 50metre heated pool will be available for both morning and afternoon lap swimming by user groups and the general public.
“YMCA Victoria will continue to develop the dedicated Bendigo East Pool website at https://www.bendigoeastpool.com.au/ and details will be updated as they become available including season opening date, hours of operation, and how to purchase season passes.
“The City announced in March this year that Bendigo East Swimming Pool would become a heated summer season-only facility and has continued to work with the pool’s user groups since that time.
“Bendigo East is a very popular swimming pool, particularly in the summer months, and the City is pleased to be able to support its ongoing operation.
“The awarding of this contract is a really great outcome for the Bendigo East Swimming Pool, the groups that use the facility and the general public.
“YMCA Victoria has been operating in Greater Bendigo for over 110 years and employs over 159 locals.
“They are also the current operators of the City’s Peter Krenz Leisure Centre in Eaglehawk where they employ 72 staff.
“The City is pleased to have awarded this contract and expects the YMCA will hit the ground running.”
