City installs new glass drop off points

The City of Greater Bendigo with funding provided by Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, has installed 19 specially branded glass drop off points throughout Greater Bendigo for residents to recycle their glass bottles and jars for free.

City of Greater Bendigo Resource Recovery and Education Manager Brooke Pearce said there are major changes coming to the way we recycle glass.

The Victorian Government state-wide kerbside reforms and the Recycling Victoria – a new economy policy mandates that in the future glass will no longer be able to go in kerbside recycling bins as glass breakages contaminate other recyclable material,” Ms Pearce said.

“Until these changes are finalised and announced the City has installed the new disposal drop off points for residents to use.

“All glass bottles and jars taken to the new drop off points will be recycled into products such as sand for road base and we ask people to remove all corks, bottles and lids from glass taken to the new points.

“Glass that cannot be taken to the new drop off points include drinking glasses, broken crockery, storage and baking ware, perfume bottles and window glass.”
