City nominated in four Victorian Tourism Awards

The City of Greater Bendigo is delighted to be finalists in four categories in the prestigious 2021 Victorian Tourism Awards.

The City has been nominated in the Local Government Award for Tourism, which recognises excellence in tourism planning, the provision of tourism facilities and services, marketing, event development and management, and the overall contribution made both locally and overall to their state’s tourism industry.

The City’s 2020 Bloom spring campaign has been nominated as a finalist in the Tourism and Marketing Campaign category.

The Bloom campaign centred on the spectacular tulip displays in Rosalind Park and created an exciting mix of online and in person experiences suitable for all ages, including Tulip Cam which streamed real-time pictures of the tulips, virtual 360-degree tours and a live Facebook curator talk with City staff from Parks and Open Space.

Bendigo Visitor Centre is a finalist in the Visitor Services Award category in recognition of its consistent high-quality customer service and face to face interaction with visitors.

The Living Arts Space (LAS) and the Uniquely Bendigo brand are nominated in the Tourism Retail and Hire category. LAS is a niche exhibition venue celebrating the diversity of work from local artists and creatives. The popular Uniquely Bendigo retail brand at Bendigo Visitor Centre promotes locally made produce, treats and crafted items together with artworks or items featured in LAS exhibitions.

City Manager Tourism and Major Events Terry Karamaloudis said the City was absolutely delighted to be nominated in four categories.

“It is fantastic news to be finalists in so many highly competitive categories with contenders from across Victoria,” Mr Karamaloudis said.

“This is wonderful recognition of how our staff and volunteers have been able to successfully pivot to create unique experiences and opportunities during the height of the pandemic.

“The Bloom campaign cleverly enticed people to be part of the tulip experiences even if they were unable to visit in person and Bendigo’s tulips have been shared far and wide to engage with a larger audience and generate significant coverage.

“The Bendigo Visitor Centre’s staff and volunteers have been nominated for their outstanding customer service, our exhibitions at the Living Arts Space and our specially branded Uniquely Bendigo are very popular and valued by residents and visitors so these state nominations are well-deserved.”

Greater Bendigo scooped four golds, one silver and one bronze at the 2019 RACV Victorian Tourism Awards – the most ever awarded to one region.

The winners will be announced on Thursday evening on February 3, 2022 at Melbourne Town Hall.
