City of Swan’s Reconciliation Action Plan officially launched

RAP launch

The City of Swan celebrated the release of its first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) with an official launch event on June 1, 2022, in Midland Square.

The event included a Welcome to Country by Traditional Owner Elvis Yarran, smoking ceremony and a cultural dance performance by the Boordiya Coolingarahs from Middle Swan Primary School.

The celebrations continued with speeches by City of Swan Mayor David Lucas and special guests Jessica Shaw MLA, Member for Swan Hills, and Anthony Culbong, Reconciliation Action Plan Advisory Group Co-chair, and a community morning tea.

City of Swan Mayor David Lucas said the RAP confirmed the City’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation and outlined practical actions designed to strengthen respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, build a culture of respect, and implement work practices that promote equity and opportunity for all.

“The City is committed to delivering the actions outlined in the RAP and we will track and report our progress to the community,” said Mayor Lucas.

“I look forward to the City working alongside First Nations peoples and the wider community to bring this plan to life.”
