City programs receive welcome boost

The City of Greater Geelong has welcomed the potential for increased programming at Geelong West Neighbourhood House and Geelong Rainbow Inc following recent renovations to the Autumn Street centre.

The Geelong West Neighbourhood House offers a range of Creative Arts, Health and Wellbeing programs, along with Self Sufficiency and Sustainability classes and workshops.

Meanwhile, the Neighbourhood House also provides a base for Geelong Rainbow Inc, a not-for-profit organisation committed to creating awareness, providing support, and enabling connections for members of the LGBTIQA+ community.

The Victorian Government contributed $65,000 in funding – through the Department of Jobs Precinct and Regions, Living Local – Regional Grants Program – to renovate the interior layout of the building, in doing so increasing capacity for programming for both the Neighbourhood House and Geelong Rainbow Inc.

The total project cost $200,000, with the renovations, delivered by the City of Greater Geelong, including the development of two permanent, sound-proofed bookable spaces and renewal of the exterior toilet.

The centre was re-opened on Tuesday 2 May 2023.
