The City of Swan supports the State Government’s recent announcement the Malaga METRONET station precinct being the preferred location for a screen production facility in principle.

Premier Mark McGowan on November 9 announced the State Government’s preferred location for the screen production facility is in the City of Swan. The location is a 16-hectare site off Marshall Road and south of Whiteman Park.

It was selected for its proximity to the Perth CBD and airport, access to future public transport, scale of the available land, and its direct access to major roads for travel to regional areas of the State.

Mayor David Lucas said the City strongly encourages economic development and supports the screen production precinct in principle, pending a formal development application.

“A screen production facility would create an opportunity to diversify industry in the area and could transform Malaga into an arts and culture precinct,” he said.

“One of the City’s main goals is creating more employment hubs, and a development such as this could put the City of Swan on the global map.

“The proximity of the proposed location to the Perth CBD and airport, and accessibility via the forthcoming train line and major roads would be very attractive for workers both local and visiting.”

Cr Lucas said the City encouraged and nurtured creative people with its range of programs and grants.
