City to thank volunteers during National Volunteer Week

To celebrate National Volunteer Week, the City will thank volunteers at a morning tea at Ulumbarra Theatre this morning, Wednesday May 18.

Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said it was a chance to acknowledge volunteers for their important contribution at the City and celebrate National Volunteer Week.

“We are so lucky to have such an amazing, large group of passionate volunteers, many of whom have enjoyed volunteering with us for many years,” Cr Metcalf said.

“The theme for National Volunteer Week 2022 is ‘Better Together’ which really sums up the important role volunteers play in our community.

“At the City, our wonderful volunteers support a wide range of City services and activities that benefit our community.

“We couldn’t do all that we do without the valuable contribution of our volunteers who give their time and bring so much passion, enthusiasm and dedication to the role and we are always looking for more volunteers.

“Volunteering helps to create a stronger, more connected and more resilient community and is proven to be great for mental wellbeing.

“It’s an opportunity to connect with other people, feel part of a team, learn new things and boost self-esteem. We have so many different volunteering options, so I encourage you to visit our website and look for volunteering roles that will interest you.

“The City has an established volunteering program for around 400 volunteers, and we provide all new volunteers with excellent training and support, including COVID-safe practices.

Volunteers support the City across a range of services including:

  • Home visiting program and Social Support Group
  • Bandmates
  • Bendigo Art Gallery and Post Office Gallery
  • The Capital and Ulumbarra theatres
  • Bendigo Easter Festival and Bendigo Writers Festival
  • Bendigo and Heathcote Visitor Centres
  • Yo Bendigo
  • Early Years’ events
  • Landcare and the environment
  • Bendigo Animal Relief Centre (BARC)

The City also partners with other volunteer groups to deliver events and values the relationships that have developed over many years.
