A conversation can change someone’s day. A shower and clean clothes can help change what’s next.
That’s why The Lott by Tatts NT is proud to support Orange Sky’s Darwin operations for a fourth consecutive year.
Over the past three years, our funding has enabled around 60% of the impact delivered by ‘Betsy’, Orange Sky’s Darwin van, helping provide 931 loads of laundry, 792 warm showers, more than 1,529 hours of genuine conversation and support for 1,061 people experiencing homelessness and hardship.
While Orange Sky is known for its bright orange vans and free laundry and shower services, its greatest impact often comes from the simple act of sitting down for a chat, creating a safe space where people feel seen, heard and connected.
Through a $90,000 contribution from The Lott by Tatts NT unclaimed prize money, we are continuing the support of Orange Sky, helping the charity provide essential services and meaningful connection to people doing it tough in the Darwin community.
What started as a bold idea in a Brisbane backyard more than a decade ago has grown into a nationwide movement, with Orange Sky now delivering free laundry services, warm showers and companionship to communities across Australia.
Orange Sky Co-Founder and CEO Lucas Patchett said the ongoing support would help the charity continue meeting growing demand for its services.
“Right now, many Australians are finding it harder than ever to get by, with many going without basic necessities like clean laundry and access to a safe, warm shower. Orange Sky has never been busier and it’s coming from people from all walks of life; people who never thought they would be in the position of needing support,” Lucas said.
“This generous donation helps us continue showing up for our friends in the community and expand our services so more people in need can access what everyone deserves: safety, respect and essential services.”
The Lottery Corporation Senior Community Partnerships Manager Liz McPherson said Orange Sky’s impact goes far beyond providing practical services.
“We’re proud to continue supporting Orange Sky and the incredible work their volunteers do every day,” Liz said.
“While clean clothes and warm showers provide immediate relief, it’s often the conversations that create the biggest impact. Orange Sky offers a place where people feel seen, heard and connected, and we’re proud that our customers help make those moments possible.
