The Albanese and Carroll Labor Governments have delivered faster and safer journeys for Clyde North, Cranbourne North and Berwick residents.
The Thompsons Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road Intersection Upgrade is now open to traffic – seven months ahead of schedule.
The roundabout has been replaced with traffic lights, improving traffic flow for the 47,000 motorists who use the intersection each day.
The project has also delivered additional approach lanes and upgraded bus infrastructure, providing safer travel options for pedestrians and cyclists.
The upgrade saw more than 120 direct jobs and 297 indirect jobs created during construction.
The $83.5 million project is equally funded by the Albanese and Carroll Labor Governments.
The nearby Clyde Road Upgrade is also on track to also seven months ahead of schedule. It will widen the Princes Freeway overpass from six to 10 lanes, easing travel for 30,000 vehicles using the road each day.
The upgrade adds to a run of completed projects across Melbourne’s south east, including O’Shea Road, Thompsons Road, Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road, Hall Road and Western Port Highway.
As stated by Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King:
“The congested old roundabout is now a thing of the past. This upgrade, completed seven months ahead of schedule, will make a huge difference to every day journeys for local families and commuters.”
As stated by Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Paul Hamer:
“This upgrade means local families will spend less time waiting in traffic and more time at the places that matter to them.”
As stated by Federal Member for Bruce Julian Hill:
“Less time spent on the roads and more time with your family. That’s what this transformation of one of South-East Melbourne’s worst intersections means – completed seven months ahead of schedule.
“Local residents have highlighted this unsafe choke point for years, and this smooth new road is another example of the Federal Labor Government treating Victoria fairly after years of being screwed over by the Liberals.
“I’m really pleased to have worked to secure this joint $83.5 million investment with the State Government.”
