Code of conduct for recreational fishers

Local and visiting recreational fishers will be asked to sign on to a voluntary code of conduct aimed at:

  • Maintaining healthy stocks of barramundi
  • Maximising the survival rate of fish being released
  • Establishing a zero tolerance for illegal fishing
  • Caring for and respecting waterways

The code of conduct, identified in Council’s Fishing Strategy 2018-2022, has been endorsed by Council, the Cairns Fishing Community and relevant stakeholders.

Cairns Regional Council is one of only three local governments in Australia to establish a code of conduct for recreational fishing.
