The Commission for Children and Young People Bill 2025 has passed the Tasmanian Parliament, delivering a key recommendation of the Commission of Inquiry.
Attorney-General, Guy Barnett, said our Government is delivering for Tasmanians, continuing to ensure our justice system protects and serves some of our most vulnerable.
“This is a tremendous step forward in keeping Tasmanian children safe,” the Attorney said.
“I want to thank all those who provided valuable feedback and input on the Bill.
“The Bill will establish a Commission for Children and Young People, strengthening Tasmania’s oversight system and serving as a strong advocate for young people.
“A new Commissioner for Children and Young People will be the head of the agency, supported by a Commissioner for Aboriginal Children and Young People and a dedicated Child Advocate.”
