Common-sense changes to cut red tape

Business Council of Australia

Permanent changes to allow companies to use electronic signatures and hold virtual meetings will let us focus on creating jobs and boosting the recovery, Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said.

“It’s just common sense to make these road-tested changes permanent. The government is right to update regulations and ensure our corporations law keeps pace with the way modern business and modern technology work.

“We urge the parliament to give business the certainty to plan for the future by passing this legislation as soon as possible.

“Temporary relief through the pandemic was critical and as we re-open we should ask ourselves every step of the way whether bringing back outdated restrictions will help our recovery or protect people.

“Before COVID-19 businesses were already using technology to make peoples’ lives easier, the crisis has simply sped up a process which could otherwise have taken years.

“This is a good step towards cutting some of the outdated and unnecessary red tape that makes it harder to do business in Australia.”
