Commonwealth Bank strengthens fight against economic crime

Commonwealth Bank

Economic crime is increasingly connected and sophisticated, with criminal networks operating across fraud, scams, cyber and financial crime.

The change builds on CommBank’s strong existing capability and more closely connects our economic crime fighting talent to help the bank identify threats earlier, respond faster and reduce opportunities for criminals.

As part of the change, James Roberts has been appointed CommBank’s first Scam Prevention Officer.

“While our capability is already strong, economic crime is not limited to organisational boundaries and neither can our response,” Chief Operations Officer Emma Bunnell said.

“We are enhancing our ability to connect signals, identify emerging threats and act even faster to detect and prevent economic crime,” she said.

The new Economic Crime operating model will take effect on 24 August 2026.
