Community backs Barkly Sq Pavilion as Council seeks election funding

The community work is done. The project is fully designed, fully costed and ready to build. Macedon Ranges Shire Council is now calling on candidates contesting the seat of Macedon at the 2026 Victorian State Election to commit $3.87 million to Barkly Square Pavilion in Kyneton.

For more than 40 years, Barkly Square has supported local sport, recreation and community life, providing a home for the Kyneton District Soccer Club, Kyneton Obedience Dog Club and a range of community activities. The proposed pavilion will deliver modern all-gender change facilities, accessible amenities, flexible community meeting space, and improved facilities that support participation, inclusion and future growth.

Mayor Cassy Borthwick said the project was about backing a community that had already demonstrated its commitment to Barkly Square.

“Barkly Square is one of the many places that bring our community together. Local families, volunteers and clubs have built something special here over decades and now need the infrastructure to keep pace with that success,” Mayor Borthwick said.

“This isn’t a project looking for support. The community support is already there. The preparation is complete, the project is ready and the benefits are clear.”

We’re inviting every candidate contesting Macedon to stand with the local families, volunteers and community groups and commit to delivering this important community asset.”

To support Council’s advocacy efforts, Council has launched the Delivering Barkly Square Pavilion Campaign and installed new campaign signage at the Beauchamp Street frontage of Barkly Square.

Community members can learn more about the project, access advocacy resources and show their support by visiting Council’s Delivering Barkly Square Pavilion webpage or scanning the QR code displayed on site.
