Community buildings within shire receive energy efficiency upgrades

A number of community buildings within the Northern Grampians Shire have received upgrades to become more energy efficient, not only helping reduce energy costs but the shire’s carbon footprint as well.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, The Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio MP, visited the Stawell Senior Citizens Centre last Friday to celebrate the recent completion of solar system and air conditioning upgrades to the building, thanks to a grant from Sustainability Victoria’s Local Government Energy Saver Program.

The grant also covered solar system and air conditioning upgrades to the St Arnaud Senior Citizens building and St Arnaud Early Learning Centre, while the St Arnaud Town Hall has also received an upgrade to its air conditioning.

In addition to this, LED lighting upgrades at St Arnaud Town Hall, St Arnaud Early Learning Centre and St Arnaud Senior Citizens Centre have taken place.

Stawell Ward Councillor, Karen Hyslop said, “These upgrades are going to save council around $23,000 a year, which is excellent because it means those funds can then go towards other projects around the shire.”

“The upgrades are also going to make these community spaces more comfortable and environmentally friendly, and adds to our existing buildings that already feature similar energy efficient initiatives.”
