Art lovers are invited to cast a vote for their favourite piece in the Surf Coast Shire Community Calendar Exhibition, to be launched at Anglesea Art Space on 13 October.

Fifty-five local artists entered the calendar competition across the four categories of Child, Youth, 2D and 3D. The exhibition opening will be held Friday 13 October from 6pm. The highlight of the evening will be the announcement of 12 winners selected by judges to appear in the 2024 Surf Coast Shire Community Calendar.

A people’s choice vote will determine the cover of the calendar. People can vote either in-person at Anglesea Art Space during the exhibition, or online via surfcoast.vic.gov.au/CalendarComp. The people’s choice winner will be announced Wednesday 1 November.

Mayor Liz Pattison said the annual community calendar exhibition supported the goals of Council’s recently-endorsed Creative Places Strategy. The strategy will help pave the way for creatives of all pursuits to be enabled and equipped to enhance the shire’s sense of place and identity.

“This year’s competition welcomed a refreshed focus, encouraging artists of all ages to showcase their creativity and what inspires them,” Mayor Pattison said. “It’s always a thrill to see the diverse range of pieces.”

The Community Calendar Exhibition will be open daily (except Mondays) from Saturday 14 October to Saturday 28 October, between 10am and 4pm.

“Participating artists will sit the exhibition on weekends, offering visitors an opportunity to chat to the creators of the work and gain insights,” Mayor Pattison said.

“It’s also a great opportunity to take in Anglesea Art Space, which is available for local artists and groups to hold their own exhibitions.”

An Expressions of Interest process to hold exhibitions at the gallery will open 1 November, with details available on the Anglesea Art Space webpage (surfcoast.vic.gov.au/AngleseaArtSpace).

Anglesea Art Space is located Shop 2/103 Great Ocean Road, Anglesea. The exhibition launch is open to community members.
