The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment is calling for community feedback on plans for the Sirius building in Cumberland Street in The Rocks.
The Department’s Executive Director of Key Sites and Regional Assessments, Anthea Sargeant said community input is a vital part of the assessment process and encouraged everyone to have a say.
The proposal seeks approval for alterations, restoration and additions to the Sirius building including:
- Increasing the gross floor area by 1,881.38 m² to 8,419.38m² and increasing the height by 5.4 metres to RL67.4 metres;
- Refurbishment of 76 residential apartments;
- Inclusion of commercial (SOHO apartments) and retail premises;
- A new two storey building at Cumberland Street for retail uses and a pool;
- Excavation for a new split-level basement;
- A pedestrian connection across the site between Cumberland Street and Gloucester Walk;
- Landscaping and public domain works, including public art.
“The Department’s role is to assess the application in consultation with the local community, government agencies and stakeholders and we are encouraging the community to share their views on this proposal,” Ms Sargeant said.
“After the exhibition closes, the Department will review all community submissions received, along with feedback from other government agencies and councils as part of its rigorous assessment process.”
The design proposal on exhibition is a result of a design competition and a review by the Design Integrity Panel, which included the City of Sydney and the Government Architect NSW.
The community is invited to have their say on the project by Thursday 17 December 2020
