Community festivals draw crowds to Burswood Park and Mirrabooka

  • More than 50,000 Western Australian Muslims celebrate Eid ul-Adha
  • Major annual festival supported by the McGowan Government
  • Eid ul-Adha is a major festival that takes place at the end of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, known as the Hajj. The joyful celebration is also a reminder of the sacredness of life and is one of the two most important annual festivals for Muslim communities across the world – the other one is Eid-ul-Fitr, taking place at the end of Ramadan.

For more than 50,000 Muslim Western Australians Eid ul-Adha is marked with community celebrations, visits to family and friends, and donations to charity.

Major Eid festivals include the Perth Eid Festival, organised by the Furqan Islamic Association of WA at the Herb Graham Recreation Centre in Mirrabooka on Saturday August 17, 2019, and the LiveLighter Multicultural Eid-Adha Carnival, organised by Australian Arab Association at Burswood Park on Sunday August 18, 2019.

Both festivals are ideal for families and includes entertainment, international foods, children’s activities and stalls.

The McGowan Government is supporting the Perth Eid Festival with $27,000 and the LiveLighter Multicultural Eid-Adha Carnival with $20,000 through funding from the Office of Multicultural Interests, Healthway and Lotterywest.
