Community funding announced

Benalla Rural City Council has awarded over $64,000 to 32 community groups as part of the 2023 Community Grants Program.

The not-for-profit community-based organisations received funding of up to $2,500 under the Community Grants Program to support projects and activities to build healthy, vibrant and sustainable communities across Benalla Rural City.

Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn said the Community Grants Program demonstrates Council’s support for community-based growth through projects, events and activities.

“The social and economic benefit to Benalla Rural City as a result of these projects and events will be immense,” Cr Hearn said.

“I congratulate all the individuals and organisations who have taken the initiative to plan their projects and apply to the Council for support.”

Projects funded include:

  • Astronomy Benalla Inc. received $2,500 for new equipment.
  • Benalla Agricultural and Pastoral Society Inc. received $2,500 for promotion of the 2023 Benalla Spring Show.
  • Benalla and District Preschool Partnership received $628 for a storage shed at Munro Avenue Kindergarten
  • Benalla and District Preschool Partnership received $549 for a digital camera at Bernard Briggs Kindergarten.
  • Benalla Aviation Museum and Men’s Shed received $2,500 for a CCTV security system replacement.
  • Benalla Bushwalking Club received $2,025 for first aid training.
  • Benalla Family Research Group Inc. received $1,299 to purchase a large TV to display records.
  • Benalla Garden Club Inc. received $933 towards the 70th Birthday Celebrations.
  • Benalla Historical Society Inc. received $2,216 to upgrade and refurbish shelving.
  • Benalla Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club Inc. received $2,500 to purchase a split system air conditioner for the clubhouse.
  • Benalla Men’s Shed received $2,244 to assist with dust extractors.
  • Benalla Migrants Association received $2,500 to put towards a cultural Diwali celebration.
  • Benalla Netball Association received $2,500 to replace the canteen service door.
  • Benalla Saints Past Players and Officials received $1,507 to top-dress the carpark and erect bollards.
  • Benalla Theatre Company Inc. received $2,500 for their production of The Drowsy Chaperone.
  • Benalla Yarn Bombers Inc. received $1,700 towards Benalla Rugged Up.
  • For the Good of Devenish received $2,500 for white ant treatment at the Trewin Museum.
  • Goorambat Football Netball Club received $2,310 to install a picnic table.
  • Goorambat Public Hall Reserve Committee of Management Inc. received $2,500 to supply and install a new lighting circuit and switch wiring at the Goorambat Hall.
  • Let Us Entertain You Inc. (LUEY) received $2,500 towards the Benalla Short Film Festival.
  • Live Art Benalla and GANEAA received $2,500 toward Mural Music 2023.
  • Lurg Hall and Reserve Committee of Management received $2,500 for a mural on the amenities block.
  • Moorngag Hall and Reserve received $1,905 to purchase a defibrillator kit for the Hall.
  • NESAY Inc. received $2,500 to purchase a TV for the waiting room in the Benalla Community Services Hub.
  • Room at the Table Inc. received $1,500 towards a gaming room makeover.
  • Rotary Club of Benalla received $1,250 to assist with installing new bus shelters.
  • Swanpool Bowling Club Inc. received $2,500 to install an outdoor water cooler.
  • Tatong Community centre and Recreation Reserve received $2,500 to purchase a new lawn mower.
  • Thoona Memorial Hall and Public Hall received $1,100 to purchase an Australia Day recipients Honour Board.
  • U3A Benalla received $1,250 to purchase a new photocopier.
  • Waminda Community House Inc. received $2,500 to assist with the costs of running weekly sessions.
  • Warrenbayne Recreation Reserve Committee Inc. received $2,500 to purchase a new lawn mower.
