The popular ACT Government grants for community gardens and zero emissions projects are now open with $167,000 available to help community groups improve the city’s sustainability.
“The community has many innovative and diverse ideas to help us reduce our emissions and inspire changes in the way we think about the environmental impact of our city and our everyday behaviours,” Mr Rattenbury said.
“The grants allow us to tap into those ideas and help us achieve our Climate Change Strategy’s target of net zero emissions by 2045.
The ACT Community Zero Emissions Grants program supports non-profit organisations and individuals to inspire behaviour change through innovative projects that demonstrate how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in different sectors such as energy, transport, building and waste.
The Community Gardens Grants program helps groups develop and expand community gardens across Canberra, and may include established gardens, new gardens, school gardens and innovative gardens such as bush tucker gardens or gardens for people with disabilities.
“Grant applications up to $25,000 for the $127,500 zero emissions grants and $10,000 for the $40,000 community gardens grants are invited,” Mr Rattenbury said.
“Both programs have been a big success in recent years. Previously there have been three rounds of Community Zero Emissions Grants and five rounds of Community Gardens Grants, with 60 projects receiving $630,000 since 2015.
