Griffith City Council has unveiled a fresh new approach to Christmas in 2026, launching the Baiada 12 Days of Christmas in Kooyoo and welcoming Baiada as the event’s major sponsor.
Running from 1 to 12 December, the initiative will transform Kooyoo Street Mall into a festive community hub, with local businesses, community groups, schools, performers and individuals invited to host their own Christmas-themed events and activities as part of the celebrations.
At the heart of the program will be Griffith’s Community Christmas Tree, creating a focal point for the city’s festive season and a backdrop for a diverse calendar of community-led events.
To encourage participation, Council has waived fees for the use of approved event spaces and facilities within Kooyoo Street Mall for the duration of the program. Council will also promote approved activities free of charge, helping organisers maximise community engagement.
Mayor Doug Curran said the revamped format would put the community at the centre of Christmas celebrations.
“Christmas is about bringing people together, and the Baiada 12 Days of Christmas in Kooyoo gives our community the chance to do just that,” Mayor Curran said.
“From performances and fundraising activities to workshops and family-friendly events, we’re inviting local groups, businesses and individuals to help create a vibrant Christmas celebration for everyone to enjoy.”
Chris Quinn, Griffith Operations Manager, said Baiada was proud to support the new community-led Christmas program.
“Christmas is a time for bringing people together, and we’re proud to give local schools, community groups, businesses and families the opportunity to be part of the celebrations.
“We hope the Baiada 12 Days of Christmas showcases Griffith’s wonderful community spirit and gives everyone a reason to come together and enjoy the festive season.”
Council is now seeking Expressions of Interest from organisations, community groups, businesses, performers and individuals interested in hosting an event or activity between 1 and 12 December.
Potential activities could include fundraising events, busking performances, demonstrations, creative workshops, cultural displays, food experiences and family-friendly entertainment.
