Community invited to get involved in Clean Up Australia Day

Greater Bendigo residents can lend a helping hand at seven local sites on Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday March 1, 2020.

Clean Up Australia Day sites include Bendigo Creek, Ironbark Gully, Strathdale Park/Kennington Reservoir, Lake Eppalock, Spring Gully Reserve and Lake Tom Thumb.

Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Margaret O’Rourke said Clean Up Australia Day continued to be an important community event in Greater Bendigo.

“I encourage people to get involved at one of the public sites that have been organised by local community groups and the City. It’s a great thing to do for your local area,” Cr O’Rourke said.

“This year community members can also take advantage of a listening post for the Reimagining Bendigo Creek Draft Plan. Project team members will be available to talk to at the Bendigo Creek clean-up site located at Lake Weeroona Rowing Club car park.

“If you’re looking for an easy and fun way to contribute to your local community, Clean Up Australia Day is for you.”

Clean Up Australia Day volunteers must register with the site coordinator upon arrival at the meeting point and are asked to wear suitable clothing, sturdy footwear, gloves and sun protection. Volunteers should also bring along something to drink and eat.

Children 15 years of age and under must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian.
