Community meeting at 3.30pm for residents in Cecil Plains

Toowoomba Regional Council’s Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has moved to stand up in response to the ongoing bushfire situation across the region including at Cecil Plains.

To ensure residents are up-to-date with the latest information, a community meeting for residents in Cecil Plains will be held at 3.30pm today at the Cecil Plains Hall. The meeting is expected to last for an hour.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) issued a Prepare to Leave alert today for a large fire which is burning in the Kumbarilla State Forest as well as the Dunmore State Forest.

Toowoomba Region Mayor and Chair of the LDMG Geoff McDonald said residents should take heed of further warnings from QFES.

“At this stage QFES has advised the large fire burning in the Kumbarilla State Forest and Dunmore State Forest is travelling towards Weir River Road, Cecil Plains Moonie Road and Waugh Road and is getting larger.

“Due to the severe conditions Council has closed some roads in the area and will continue to monitor conditions should further closures be required.

“While no evacuations are planned at this stage, Council will ensure facilities are available should they be required.

“The Local Disaster Coordination Centre has also been activated with Council continuing to work closely with QPS and QFES at the QFES Regional Operations Centre,” Cr McDonald said.

“Firefighters are working to contain the fire supported by Council and the LDMG. Council water trucks are helping with water supply on the fireground with the Millmerran airfield being used for refuelling and filling of water bombers.

“The LDMG is asking residents right across the region to remain vigilant during this time as an increase bushfire risk remains due to current conditions,” Mayor McDonald said.
