Community open session for Hawthorn this Sunday

Tourism, Sport and Major Events Portfolio Cr Jason O’Pray said the Hawks would be the first of five AFL clubs to arrive on the Sunshine Coast as they prepare for the 2019 season.

“With the school holidays upon us this is great timing to get the family together to watch and interact with an elite sporting team,” Cr O’Pray said.

“The Sunshine Coast really has become a popular home away from home for a number of AFL clubs who just love heading north to prepare for the 2019 season ahead.

“The high quality sporting facilities we have in our region, along with great weather conditions, provides a fantastic combination for professional sporting teams to obtain an advantage ahead of the start of their competition.”

Cr O’Pray said as well as giving AFL fanatics the chance to see the stars and new recruits up close, these camps also provided an economic contribution and provided social benefits to the Sunshine Coast, which has a proven reputation as a high-quality sporting destination.

“We look forward to welcoming the other four clubs Brisbane Lions AFLW, Carlton, Melbourne and Western Bulldogs training at the venue in the New Year through to early February 2019,” he said.

The community open session will be held at the Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex on Fishermans Road from 8am to 10.30am.
