Community picnic and artist paint out

Tweed Shire Council

Pack a blanket, a picnic basket and an appreciation of art and enjoy the annual community picnic afternoon in the beautiful grounds of the Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre.

To be held on Sunday 26 June from 2 pm to 5 pm, the afternoon will include live music, artists at work outdoors inspired by the glorious views, free art activities for the kids and, as an added bonus, a fashion clothing swap hosted by the Gallery to celebrate the current exhibition Pattern and Print: Easton Pearson Archive.

Contemporary Aboriginal artist from the Tweed caldera Michael Philp will be a special guest onsite during the afternoon.

His works explore themes around identity, connection to land, connection to his people and personal memories of his family history in the Tweed.

The picnic gathering provides a unique opportunity to watch artists in action, discover what inspires t hem and perhaps purchase an art piece created onsite.

If you are after a fresh addition for your wardrobe, bring along some special items to swap. You can bring up to 6 items for the fashion swap, collect your token and then browse what’s on offer.

Please ensure that items you bring are clean and in good condition. Clothes drop off is at 1 pm and the swap starts at 2:30 pm.

All clothing remaining at the end of the day will be donated to Tweed Palliative Support Op Shop.

Why not spoil yourself and order a picnic hamper in advance through Café Bacaro on 02 6672 5088.

This will be an ideal opportunity to come together as a community, sharing a wonderful afternoon of art, music, food, fashion and fun and then take in the sunset from a beautiful location.
