Community satisfaction survey results 2023

This year’s community satisfaction survey results are in and overall satisfaction with Bayside City Council has increased, with residents giving an average score of 7.1 out of 10.

The annual independent survey helps us better understand how our community perceives us, measures satisfaction with Council’s leadership and delivery of services and facilities, and identify issues of concern.

Our most valued services

Overall, residents rated their satisfaction with Council’s services and facilities as ‘very good’.

Services and facilities considered most important were rated as very good or excellent, with improvements including:

  • Parks and gardens (up 5%)
  • Public toilets (up 4%)
  • Animal management (up 4%)
  • Maintenance and cleaning of public areas (up 3%)
  • Local libraries (up 3%)
  • Sportsgrounds and ovals (up 3%)
  • Recreation aquatic centres (up 3%)
  • Footpaths (up 3%)

Satisfaction with Bayside City Council’s overall performance and services remains higher than the average for the six inner eastern region councils.

Issues and concerns

The annual community satisfaction survey is also an opportunity to explore current issues of concern in Bayside for residents.

The top issues residents were most concerned about in early 2023 include:

  • Car parking and traffic management
  • Building, planning, housing, development
  • Rubbish and waste
  • Roads maintenance and repairs
  • Provision and maintenance of street trees
  • Environment, sustainability, climate change

About the survey

The community satisfaction survey is conducted each year by an independent company Metropolis Research. Approximately 700 randomly selected households each year participate in the survey, which is conducted face-to-face.

The survey is just one of the ways that we measure our performance and the community’s satisfaction with the services, facilities, and leadership that Council provides.
