The first-ever long term Community Vision for the people of Mildura Rural City Council has been adopted, along with a new four-year Council Plan, after an extensive six-month engagement process.

Mildura Rural City Council endorsed the two key strategic documents at this week’s Council Meeting.

Informed by almost 2,000 contributions from local residents and groups collected in the first half of this year, the 2021-2040 Community Vision outlines the long term aspirations, goals, priorities, and values of our region.

It is underpinned by five Vision Themes with statements describing what everyone who lives, works, plays and learns in the Mildura Rural City Council area wants for our region in the next two decades.

Each theme has a set of corresponding goals to be achieved during this period.

Our five Vision Statements are:

  • We will sustain and enhance our natural environment and resources for current and future generations
  • We will be a healthy, respectful and connected community
  • We will be a place to live, belong and visit with infrastructure and development that enhances our lifestyle
  • We will have a thriving economy that harnesses our strengths and capitalises on opportunity
  • We will have responsible, collaborative leadership that puts community wellbeing at the heart of decision-making

Mayor, Cr Jason Modica said the Community Vision was already playing a pivotal role in shaping Council’s work.

“The Community Vision is embedded in our new Council Plan,” Cr Modica said.

“The 2021-2025 Council Plan details what the organisation will do over the next four years to achieve the long-term aspirations our community has for this region.”

Requirements under the new Local Government Act 2020, the Community Vision and Council Plan will both guide Mildura Rural City Council’s decision-making, planning, projects and advocacy on behalf of the local community.

Cr Modica thanked everyone who helped inform the Community Vision and the Council Plan.

“We have taken a remarkable journey over past six months and I want to thank each and every person for their contributions, ideas and input.”

“I look forward to working with my fellow Councillors, Council staff and our many important partners towards the goals and aspirations of our Community Vision and Council Plan.”
