Companies, take note: Business is Better in SA

SA Gov

An interstate campaign to attract more companies to South Australia and highlight the State’s competitive advantages is underway – with Victorians seeing first-hand why SA is the best place to invest and do business.

Business is Better in SA shows companies in Victoria that by making the move to South Australia, they will help their businesses grow and create jobs.

The campaign – led by Invest SA – follows the Victorian Government’s $8.6 billion ‘COVID Debt Levy’ tax which will slug about 4,000 businesses and have a huge knock-on effect through increased costs to consumers in the state.

The Malinauskas Government has committed to no new taxes or current tax hikes.

South Australia has one of the most competitive payroll tax regimes in the country, a top land tax rate below Victoria’s and is the only state or territory not to charge stamp duty on commercial property transactions.

These drawcards feature as part of the blitz on billboards around Melbourne, digital media, Facebook and Instagram to promote South Australia’s:

*Better Business Tax Breaks

oZero payroll tax for wages under $1.5 million.

oVictorians pay $5073 a year in state taxes compared to $2970 in SA.

*Better Affordability

oLand price for a 1–5-hectare block is 59 per cent cheaper than Melbourne ($/sqm).

oSA’s average home price is 26 per cent lower than Victoria.

*Better Commercial Spaces

oSA’s premium city office space is 37 per cent cheaper than Melbourne.

oHome to leading Tonsley Innovation District, Adelaide BioMed City and Lot Fourteen.

*Better Commute Times

oLess traffic congestion than Melbourne with better access to services.

oGood public transport and no toll roads.

*Better Lifestyle

oWorld-class festivals, food and wine regions.

oQuality education outcomes with growing skills base.

The campaign builds on Invest SA’s work to encourage more businesses to set up in SA and attract national and global investment to the State.

The dedicated division helped funnel $1 billion into SA in just its first year following the former Liberal government’s short-sighted decision to scrap the agency.

It comes as South Australia’s economy recorded the highest growth in the country in the June quarter, backed by strong public and private investment.

The Business is Better in SA campaign runs until 16 September.

As put by Peter Malinauskas

Our message to businesses is clear – come to South Australia for a more competitive environment in a state that values your contribution to our economy and local jobs.

South Australians know business really is better in SA, so we’re now driving that home to those across the border and around the country that our State is open for business.

As put by Nick Champion

We already have more competitive business and investment settings than Victoria and this campaign highlights how we are well placed to capitalise on this advantage.

It’s just another way we are doing more to attract and grow businesses and show industries why we are the best place to invest.

As put by Committee for Adelaide CEO Sam Dighton

Adelaide has a growing economy with significant potential, the recent Benchmarking Adelaide Report demonstrates that Adelaide is a city of opportunity whose solid population growth and an appealing business environment underpin resilient demand from corporates.

The Committee for Adelaide applauds the Government’s efforts to increase investment in South Australia, particularly to grow the business community and encourages further engagement with the Adelaide Business Community.

Adelaide punches at or above its weight for attracting investment into creative and technology sectors like AI, film, television and business processes.
