Willoughby City Council has completed an innovative $7million project to replace the façade panels at The Concourse, ensuring the safety and longevity of the cultural home of the North Shore for all to enjoy.

Council proactively sought to replace the panels at The Concourse after initiating an investigation in 2019 that found the type of panels substantially used in the construction contained a flammable component. Works on the building began in March 2021, following the appointment of BuildCorp as the lead contractor.

The innovative panels were customised to allow for additional thermal movement whilst maintaining conventional mechanical fixings. The end result is an interlocking series of panels made of non-combustible solid aluminum that are able to move as the climate dictates whilst remaining securely fixed to the building.

Willoughby City Council Mayor Tanya Taylor said “The Concourse is one of Sydney’s leading entertainment venues and the cultural heart of the North Shore. This proactive project enables this premier venue to be safer for our community, visitors and performers.”.

“Replacing the exterior cladding panels using this innovative design means The Concourse will continue to provide world-class entertainment facilities for many years to come.”

The project reached practical completion ahead of schedule in February 2022 within budget and to specified quality standards.
