Confronting bullying head on

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Education and Training, Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing

The Hodgman Liberal Government is championing a whole-of-community approach to tackling bullying.

Bullying is a serious problem that can only be prevented through a shared effort, supported by each of us as individuals.

It can happen to anyone, anywhere at any age and can cause harm to physical and/or mental wellbeing, and lead to tragic consequences.

This is why next Thursday (25 July 2019), I will be hosting a meeting with key community and business leaders as the first step in working towards a whole-of-community response.

There is already substantial work underway in government, businesses and communities aimed at stopping and preventing bullying. Responses range from capacity building and advocacy, the work undertaken by independent statutory officers, and laws addressing workplace health and safety, discrimination, and criminal behaviours.

Meeting participants will explore how we can collectively build on current activities and work together to take further action against bullying.

As a government we are determined to do all we can to stop bullying but it is important for all communities across Tasmania to show their commitment and work together to take action against it.
