Congratulations to dentists named in Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2022

Continuing a tradition that began in 1975, this year’s The Queen’s Birthday Honours List recognises the significant contribution made by members of the dental profession and industry.

The ADA warmly congratulates everyone honoured and thanks them for their ongoing service to the profession and to the people of Australia.

Clinical Professor Sameer BHOLE (NSW)

For significant service to dentistry, to education and research, and to professional associations.

The Clinical Associate Professor at the School of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney since 2006, Associate Professor (A/Prof) Prof Bhole has served as the Clinical Director of Oral Health, Sydney Dental Hospital, since 2005 and is a former Director of the Oral Health South Western Sydney Area Health Service (1995 to 2014) and of the Southern Oral Health Network, Greater Murray and Southern Area Health Services. A Fellow of Pierre Fauchard Academy, International College of Dentists and Academy of Dentists International, A/Prof Bhole has also been a Fellow in Dental Public Health, Specialty Stream, Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, since 2011. In addition, since 2009, he has been an assessor of the Australasian Council on Healthcare Standards, with awards and recognitions including Quality Award, Preventative Health, South Western Sydney Local Health District (2017), Early Career Researcher Award, South Western Sydney Local Health District and Ingham Institute (2016), Chairman’s Award, Sydney Local Health District (2016) and New South Wales Premier’s Award, Department of Premier and Cabinet (2008).

Dr Michael Anthony FOLEY, Wollongong (NSW)

For significant service to community health, and to dental education.

Closely involved with the ADA over a number of years serving as The President of the Queensland branch (ADAQ) in 2005 and as a State Councillor from 2001-2006 as well as serving on key committees for ADAQ, Dr Michael Foley is the current Chair of the ADA’s Oral Health Committee, of which he has been a member since 2007. A Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland (UQ) School of Dentistry since 2010, Dr. Foley has also served as Member/Chair, Review Committees, Dental School MPhil and PhD students (2012-2016) and as a member of both DClinDent Academic Program Review Panel, the EvidenceBased Dentistry Panel (2016) and as a Judge, School of Dentistry Three Minute Thesis in 2019. Dr. Foley has also served in a nuber of roles for Queensland Health, including, among others, as Director, Research and Advocacy, Metro North Oral Health Services (2017-2021), Director, Brisbane Dental Hospital (2011-2017) and as the Principal Dentist, Stafford Dental Clinic (2008-2011). He has also contributed in a number of advisory and conmmittee roles for Queensland Health including, but not limited to, as a member of the Queensland Fluoridation Committee (2008-2012), as the Queensland Health Representative on the Queensland Inter-Departmental Committee, advising the Government on practical issues associated with the implementation of water fluoridation in 2007 and as a member/Chair of the Dental Board of Queensland/AHPRA disciplinary panels and provision of expert opinions, 2001-2014. A member of a number of professional associations including International Association for Dental Research, American Fluoridation Society, Colgate Expert Directory and the Australasian Epidemiological Association, Dr. Foley has been awarded the Service Medallion from the ADA in 2016, a Distinguished Service Award, also from the ADA in 2019, and a Distinguished Service Award from ADAQ in 2013, in addition to a Australia Day Public Health Service Achievement Medallion, Queensland Health in 2009 and 2015 and the QuARRIE Award, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, for clinical services in 2009.
