Conservatives condemn senseless NZ mosque attack

Australian Conservatives Release

Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi has strongly condemned today’s attacks on two mosques in the New Zealand South Island city of Christchurch which left at least 40 people dead and more than 20 injured, in what is the worst mass-shooting in New Zealand’s history.

The Guardian reports, New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said it was one of New Zealand’s ‘darkest days’ as police also revealed multiple explosive devices had been attached to cars and urged all mosques across New Zealand to close their doors for the time being.

Four people were taken into custody for what Prime Minister Ardern described as a terrorist attack.

One person was later released.

Ardern condemned the ideology of the people behind the shootings, saying: “You may have chosen us but we utterly reject and condemn you”.

Senator Bernardi said, “There is never any justification nor excuse for such reprehensible attacks. That they happen in a place of worship and target people on the basis of their religious beliefs makes this crime even more heinous”.
